Kindle Fire 2 VS the new Nook Tablet?

While we wait for the 6th of September for the Amazon press conference to see what the Kindle Fire 2 might be like and when it will be in sale let us see what the other companies are up to. Lets us start with Barnes & Noble and their latest rumored tablet device. We already told you that Barnes & Noble are opening their digital bookstore in the UK but it is unknown when their eReaders will be available. Amazon on the other hand will beat them to the UK market by making their kindles available there much sooner. The Nook tablet is also seriously outdated and Barnes & Noble probably feels the heat rising each day..  Perhaps the fact that they are in Amazon's shadow all the time is what is forcing them to leak the news of the new Nook tablet which is meant to rival the Kindle Fire 2. So what is this new Nook tablet supposed to be like?

Well as you might expect there isn't a lot of information available about this new Nook tablet but even when analyzing the information that was leaked it seems that Amazon wins the Kindle Fire 2 vs the new Nook tablet battle. We are told by CNET that Barnes & Noble will be releasing an affordable tablet this September or early October which will compete with the Kindle Fire 2, Nexus 7 and the rumored iPad Mini. This device is said to be slimmer but have much better parts bellow the hood that the previous device. Like the Kindle Fire 2 it will run on a custom version of Android and perhaps come in several sizes with the 7 inch model being the focus of interest at the moment.

Meanwhile Apple is busy with their legal law suits and trying to ban Samsung from the USA (most of their phones and tablets that is). Apple won the legal law suit in the USA and Samsung was ordered to pay over 1 billion dollars to compensate for the damages. Apple will try to increase this fine to as much as 3 billion dollars and also make the court issue a ban on some of Samsung's devices which contain the stolen patents. Samsung on the other hand can also have their own say in the matter and they might be even able to win a new trial because of the mistakes and the controversial statements made by the members of the jury who only took three days to reach a decisions in one the largest legal cases of this nature in the past decades. It is a good thing that Amazon does their own thing and doesn't have problems like Samsung. The Kindle Fire 2 could profit nicely from this legal argument if it lasts long enough.

Still, things are going great for Apple and extra money will surely come in handy for the production and advertising costs of their upcoming iPhone 5 and the iPad Mini which is rumored to come in October. Let us hope the Kindle Fire 2 will be selling like crazy by the time Apple even starts selling their new low-end tablet!

Kindle Fire 2 release date in September! Amazon Press Conference on the 6th of September to announce it!

Just as the Amazon employees told me that a Kindle Fire 2 isn't even supposed to be made (link) Amazon decides to invite the media to a press conference without announcing what it is about. As TechRader reports the conference will be held on the 6th of September in an airport hanger in Santa Monica, Calif. It seems Amazon wants their words to "echo" loudly in there (pun intended)!

Amazon did not say much in their invitation to the press, all they revealed is "Please join us for an Amazon Press Conference."

The release of the Kindle Fire 2 couldn't have come sooner as the competition is really heating things up! For example, on the 29th of August Samsung will present the Galaxy Note 2 (a 5.5 inch phone that is dubbed a "phablet") and along with that promote the new set of Galaxy Tab Android tablets. Another example is Apple and their special event on the 12th of September to unveil the iPhone 5 and rumor has it that they will also show off the iPad Mini, another competitor device for the Kindle Fire 2. Along with this the Google Nexus 7 is still selling very well and Asus is also reporting a booming sales result for their Transformer pads. As you can see the market is rather dynamic!

We already told you what specs you can realistically expect from the Kindle Fire 2 but the online rumors have changed a bit since then. People seemed to be more focused on the rumored 10 inch tablet which is supposed to be more similar to Apple products that the previous Kindle Fire or any other Android tablets currently on the market. Perhaps a mixture of everything that is good out there and Amazon's special touch will be enough to create a great, competitive tablet to storm the market? Let's hope so!

Kindle Fire 2 Update: Amazon staff remains mysterious on the Kindle Fire 2 release

Instead of waiting for Amazon to come forward with some news and such I decided to give a shout out to them instead and ask around about the Kindle Fire 2. I sent an email to some of their staff and workers recently and as you may imagine this did not get me too far. Despite my introduction and evidence that this blog has 3,000 visitors per day who want to see the new Kindle Fire 2 out as fast as possible, they did not produce anything of interest to me or the visitors of this blog, the loyal fans of Amazon's tablet.

Here is an email response from one of the employees that I talked with.

In case you cannot see the photo above here is the response in text format.

Hello,

Thanks for writing back with this feedback! I'm glad that your are enjoying your Kindle.

I checked and see that we've not released any new Kindle after Kindle Fire was released.

Also, we've made no announcement about a new Kindle, so I'm not able to answer your question.

You can view our Kindle models currently available and discover when we’ve released any new Kindle by following the link below:

Your comments and questions help us continue to improve the service we provide, and we appreciate the time you took to write to us.

Thanks for your interest in Kindle.

I find this disappointing to say the least...

Kindle Fire 2 & Amazon need to step it up!

So here's the story of the Kindle Fire 2 and Amazon's downfall in a nutshell: the competition is restless and really working on dishing out some great competitive tablets and eReaders while Amazon isn't giving us any updates on the Kindle Fire 2 release date nor the specs and features of the device.

In the last article we published we saw a report from earlier this year that showed Amazon was ranked at number 3 in the tablet with 4.2% of market share due to the huge success of the first Kindle Fire. However, this device is quickly being outdated by the rising number of impressive and affordable tablets. At first we feared the Google Nexus 7 would be the kindle killer but now there are other candidates for this role as well. The Kindle Fire 2 needs to put Amazon back into the game and make them more dangerous than ever!

Is the Nook a threat to Amazon?

In terms of their eReaders I would say that Barnes & Noble isn't a company that can overtake Amazon at number 3 nor are they such a big threat in the USA. However, just today Barnes & Noble announced that they will be making their eReaders and a digital bookstore available in the UK. Amazon is trying to do the same and their recent agreement with Waterstones, a leading book retailer, shows that they are certainly making a good effort. This move will finally bring the Kindle Fire to the UK as well as the other kindles (even the Kindle Fire 2).

It will take some time before the Nook tablets are on sale in the UK and if Amazon can launch the Kindle Fire 2 in September in the US and in the UK then they would certainly deal a heavy punch to Barnes & Noble and possibly win the race for the European marketplace against them.

 Does the iPad Mini exist?

We got some criticism from our reader about speculating that the iPad Mini may be a big problem for the Kindle Fire 2. I respect and value each opinion you guys and girls are posting, however, I would not forget about this rumored device folks! A report from DigiTimes and the follow-up from Pop Herald suggest that there will indeed be an iPad Mini and that it will hit the stores very hard. This will be a 7.85 inch tablet that will be very affordable for Apple's usual standards and we can expect it to hit the stores by October or November. This is another reason for the Kindle Fire 2 to hurry up with its release, though Amazon is perhaps waiting till the holiday season.

To sum it up: hurry up Amazon!

Kindle Fire 2 to take on Samsung’s and Google’s best?

At first the whole kindle thing was just about a lightweight and affordable tablets for reading, but today the Kindle Fire 2 device faces a challenge that will be the first of its kind for Amazon. With the Kindle Fire 2 release date hanging about in the near future many are wondering what Amazon hopes to accomplish. Will they try and sell as many models as possible for a low price in order to earn from digital products and services or will they be making a rumored 10inch model to take on Apple and their iPad series. I would like to think that it is one of their goals to establish themselves as a quality tablet manufacturer and worthy opponent to Samsung and Apple.

A report from Seattle PI featured a recent poll that showed the top five tablet in the second quarter of 2012. The results? Not so shocking as Apple was ranked on the first place and it had 17 million of its iPads sold and shipped worldwide. This was actually 70% of the market share! As expected we had Samsung Electronics Co. second with just 10% of market share, or in other words 2.3 million units shipped. So where’s Amazon and the Kindle Fire? Well, Amazon’s tablet was at 3rd place with about 1 million units shipped which is 4.2% of the market share. Not bad right? I mean this all started as a simple eReader and now the Kindle Fire is a very popular tablet and it was Amazon’s first shop at a tablet as well. The Kindle Fire 2 will, however, have big shoes to fill.

The task of making a powerful tablet and getting more of the market share will not be easy for Amazon. Their Kindle Fire 2 needs to be ready for the latest Samsung Galaxy Note and Tab, the rumored iPad Mini and not to mention Google Nexus 7 and the rumored Microsoft tablets. Taking number 2 will not be easy, however, the recent legal lawsuit Apple filled against Samsung may benefit the Kindle Fire 2 as Sammy might lose a few valuable pennies.

Most however agree that Amazon will not have trouble staying in their number three spot as the top tablet manufacturers behind them are AsusTek at number 4 and Barnes & Noble Inc. at number 5. Personally I am very much considering going for an Asus Transformer or the Google Nexus 7 which will pretty soon show just how much market share it was able to steal away from its competition.

Kindle Fire 2 coming next week or bust! Gizmondo bets $110 that it will be out next week!

We expected an event on the 7th of August that would serve as a platform for the Kindle Fire 2 as it was announced but nothing happened. I understand a lot of people are disappointed, and to be honest so am I. Right now I am looking over the Asus Transformer and considering getting it instead. However, I found an interesting deal yesterday and I can see that the major bogs are drooling all over it! What I saw was a deal of the day on Amazon which featured a massive discounts on the 10-inch Kindle DX reader (from $379 to $269) and various kindle accessories. The time of shipping of Kindle Touch also increased from 8 to 9 days showing that it is going out of stock.

kindle fire 2 release date
Proof of the offer on Amazon. The offer expired, but a lot of people took the chance!

Observing these moves from Amazon we can conclude that they are finally clearing their stock to make room for the Kindle Fire 2 (we covered this strategy in this article by the way). When a company does this they clean up their stock and launch a new product, will this be the case too? Even though the Kindle Fire 2 release date that was predicted for 7th of August which now seems like a bad rumor or a joke, we can still expect the Kindle Fire 2 this month.

Some people are confident that the Kindle Fire 2 will come out next week, so confident that they bet the world $110! I am talking about the daring author from Gizmondo who wrote the article $110 Says all the new Kindles are coming next week .

Also, Business Insider reports: Amazon was originally expected to announce its new Kindle lineup in July, but now it looks like we'll find everything out as soon as next week. [source]

As soon as next week you say? That isn't so bad, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you! I was planning to buy a new tablet next week so I will wait out a bit to see if the Kindle Fire 2 will actually come out. We waited it our this long, why not wait a bit longer?

Kindle Fire 2 Release Date Almost Here!

The fourth of July was a very enjoyable holiday this year as all the Kindle Fire 2 fans got word of the rumor that the release date for the brand new  Amazon tablet will be August the 7th (article link) and seeing as we are less than two days away from this date I am starting to get worried that the online press is not mentioning the device at all. Was this release date just a rumor gone bad? The Amazon Kindle Fire 2 was really starting to get into trending and its popularity was really booming on the search engines mid July but now the popularity and interest are declining dramatically as it seems Amazon will not meet the expected release date. It seems that Asians, no matter how smart they are, should not be trusted when it comes to rumors and release dates of popular tablet or mobile devices.

Anyone remember the mania that surrounded the release of the iPhone 4S or the Samsung Galaxy S3? That is what we call successful marketing and perhaps Amazon does have the device ready, but lacks a solid platform to advertise it?

It is a shame really since we were just getting excited about those first fan-made models and renders of the device by t3n.de which really looked amazing. While I doubt Amazon will actually keep the idea of a white backboard I see this design becoming a popular case for the Kindle Fire 2 already.

The tablet's competitor, the Google Nexus 7, has had a busy month as it took a while to meet all the preorders and the device was quickly out of stock. This is type of success Amazon will try to aim for with their new tablet device. Just how big the impact of the Nexus 7 is on the tablet market we cannot say just yet as no official figures have been posted but Forbes speculates that we will have some news on the matter rather soon. Since even Apple is feeling the heat it is safe to say that Amazon has their own reasons to worry about and Jelly Bean, the new Android OS the Nexus 7 is running, is just one of them.

We already made a post on what the Kindle Fire 2 needs to feature in order to win the tablet war so I suggest you give that article a read in case it missed you attention. Right now a lot of people are asking if it will be possible to trade the original Kindle Fire for the new device and what fees they would have to pay, but as of yet there is no information we can share on the matter. If anything comes up we will notify you for sure, so keep updated with our blog!
